Our History

Greenlandic Martial Art Event (GME) was founded in 2022 with a clear vision to build a strong and connected martial arts community in Greenland.

Our team at GME is made up of passionate martial artists, trainers, and volunteers who believe that martial arts can be a powerful force for positive change. We see martial arts not only as a sport, but as a way to develop discipline, confidence, respect, and community spirit qualities that benefit both individuals and society as a whole.

From the very beginning, our goal has been to create a space where people from different disciplines; ITF Taekwondo, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, and MMA can come together, share their passion, and learn from each other. Through our annual championship and related events, we aim to inspire cooperation, cultural exchange, and personal growth across Greenland.

GME was founded by Daniel Platou Kristiansen a dedicated martial artist with a background in ITF Taekwondo where he was competing in the national team. His vision for GME was to bring Greenland’s martial artists together, to not only compete, but to build friendships, strengthen communities, and promote a healthy lifestyle through martial arts.

Today, the GME team continues to grow, driven by the same belief that started it all:
that martial arts can empower individuals and unite communities, shaping a stronger and more connected Greenland.
